UPDATED: The Launch of the OnePlus 2

Through the aid of cardboard goggles, OnePlus announces it’s predecessor to last years #NeverSettle smartphone; the OnePlus 2. Taking the event from the typical stage and into Virtual Reality, OnePlus allows any of its fans to participate in their launch event of the year.
Their humble leader Carl Pei expresses over and over that most launches are focused around the specs of a telephone, but they want to focus on the experience. Despite all that, the specs are still very important. Last year, the One Plus One was truly in direct line of any other flagship phones but for a fraction of the cost. This year, they stay true to their roots and build another specked out phone, and made sure it was future proof with the first time use of of the USB type C charging component. That’s a USB charger that will plug in either orientation.
The rest of the specs include: 3300 mAh battery, 4GB of RAM, SnapDragon 810 Octa-core processor, 5.5 inch 1080P HD display, and a 13 MP camera. This phone has the top specs of the year, though they boast it is future proof enough that it is the 2016 flagship killer, insinuating there will not be a phone in 2015 that can compete.

Along with some of the top specs, the OnePlus 2 will be available in 4 color options (unknown) and will boister the trademarked “Sandstone Black” design, which is that of a touch no other manufacturer has even tried to duplicate. A soft and subtle texture that is not rough but allows you to hold on to the phone without any challenge. Also, they will sale Style Swap covers so that you could change the back out very quickly and easily. The covers will be sold separately.
The Qualcomm SnapDragon 810 has had it’s bad adventures this year thus far. Samsung chose not to use it b/c it presumably overheated. LG did use it in the LG G Flex 2, and in deed it did get hot. HTC One M9 also has this processor, several reviewers note it does get hot to the touch, but may let it slide of it’s metal exterior. Qualcomm has gone on record stating that there are two versions of the 810 but all the leading phone mentioned, including the OnePlus 2, will include version 2.1. I can only assume version 1.0 was even hotter.
OnePlus went a little further with their custom tweaks. They are including a hardware “Alert Slider” on the side of the phone which will have three different sound positions: silent, priority, and all. Boasting, of course, that it is “faster than the iPhone” to unlock. They will also include a patented charging cord which has the aforementioned USB type C plug on one end and a reversible standard USB 2.0 plug on the other.
Their very own Oxygen OS operating system will be included in this year’s model as opposed to Cyanogen OS from last year. They’ve added several custom tweaks and included some goodies others have as well. A “Dark Mode” which will darken all the system screens from white to black or gray. A Color Mode which will allow you to tweak colors throughout the entire system settings. And a theme engine, which they has last year and several have this year.
Lastly, how do you get your hands on one? Sadly, it will be an invite system, like last year. Though they say supply is more available and more invites will be readily available. You’ll have to get an invite by signing up with them at OnePlus.net, getting one from a friend who bought the OnePlus 2, or winning one from various contests in their forums. And the price, well, let’s just say, that’s still a secret.

UPDATE: and via Twitter they have announced that the 16GB will be $329 and the 64GB will be $389. Arguably, much lower than any other phone in its class. I question the need for a 16GB model in this day and age. Anyone who actually knows about this phone by reading blogs such as this know needs at least 32GB.

Well, what do you think? Will the OnePlus 2 be a real flagship killer that will help you to #NeverSettle? Sound off in the comments below and share your price guesses.
